4 out of 5 stars Holding the fort down for now   July 29, 2010

Good quality here. My 8 year old fell off the bed and broke her arm so we wanted to try and make things safer. I know this is for younger kids but it seems like it could keep her safe and I can rest a bit easier until she become less of a wild sleeper.

The length is good and I like that it's metal mostly.

5 out of 5 stars Durable and simple   July 13, 2010

We bought this when our then 18-month old moved to a big bed. She's a crazy sleeper and we wanted to make sure even through her tossing and turning that she'd stay safe in the bed. Now, a year and a half later, it still works and has withstood the abuse from our two kids.

Now that they're big enough, they use it during the day as something to hold while jumping, they climb over it, they roll around against it, and it still stands straight. It has just enough give that you don't have to worry about a face or anything getting squashed up and stuck against it (though the stretchy mesh material would prevent any smothering), but yet it somehow remains standing up and doing its job. I'm really pretty impressed because my daughter sleeps mostly laying against it/leg thrown over it every night, and it hasn't bent out of shape.

The two locks are easy to pull up for changing sheets and what not, but I believe other posters have mentioned that depending on the size of your bed, most likely the rail won't lay flat against the bed when you have it down. We have a normal mattress and box spring on a metal/wheeled frame, but when you have the rail down, it lays at an angle. Not a problem for us because it's rarely down, but maybe something to consider if you'll have it down more often.

I will say it took us a little while to figure out exactly how to get it tightened between the two mattresses at first. Every once in awhile when I move the bed for cleaning if it slides down it takes me awhile to figure it out how to tighten it again. That would be the only con I can really think of.

Otherwise great, strong product.

5 out of 5 stars exactly what I was looking for   July 12, 2010

Easy to install. Work perfectly. Fold down easily and look great. I bought two and fold both the rails down each morning to make my two year old daughter's bed. You can not really tell they are there during the day and she hasn't fallen out of bed yet so in my opinion they are a great buy. I bought 2 more sets for the grandparents' houses.

2 out of 5 stars broken   June 16, 2010

This product broke and is unusable after one use, unfortunately we did not realize it was broken until we went to use it the second time (on vacation) and now we are long out of our return period.

5 out of 5 stars Important Dimensions   June 3, 2010

Before buying, I read many of the reviews and looked diligently without success for dimensional information. On the box, the rail that extends above the mattress and swings down along side the bed is marked as 20 inches tall. This means that the top of your box springs (or platform) must be at least 20 inches off the floor for the rail to swing all the way down. If it doesn't, it gets in the way of making the bed or getting in and out of the bed. I bought mine for an elderly aunt, so this was an important factor. I ended up having to build a platform under the bed to raise it 4.5 inches. The horizontal width of the rail is 48 inches, so the one releasing the rail to swing down must be able to reach that distance to release the locks. The assembly instructions were not as clear as they claimed. There are no legs on this device that stand on the floor. The two tubular pieces at each end insert between the box springs and the mattress. The strap that goes between the box springs and mattress to the "anchor" on the far side of the bed was too long for a twin-sized bed and I had to tie a knot in the strap to shorten it. The finished product was fine and I would not hesitate to recommend it.
