Getting Pregnant
Tips
If you're trying to conceive, it can be frustrating to end up
with month after month of negative pregnancy tests. Use these
getting pregnant tips to increase your chances of
conception.
Folic Acid
Increase your intake of folic acid. This will help prevent
birth defects in your baby to be.
Contraception
If you've been on the pill or using other forms of hormonal
birth control, it may take a few cycles to return to normal.
Some women are fertile the very first cycle after they stop, so
be prepared either way. If you have an IUD, it needs to be
removed before you try to conceive.
Get a Check-up
Visit your doctor for a physical. They will make sure you're in
good health, and give you tips on what you may want to work on.
If you smoke, use drugs or drink, now is the time to quit. If
you like a large amount of caffeine every day, think about
cutting back.
Be Hospitable
Many vaginal products like sprays, douches, artificial
lubricants and other products are not sperm-friendly. If you
don't feel you have enough cervical mucus, you may try a
lubricant like Pre-seed, which is safe for sperm.
Charting and OPKs
Keeping track of your morning temperature can help you know if
your cycle is regular or not. If you also keep track of your
cervical mucus, you'll be able to predict when ovulation is
coming. Your temperature will tell you when it has arrived. If
you want a little more help predicting when you'll ovulate, you
can use ovulation prediction kits. They are easy to use and
will help you pinpoint the best time to conceive.
Timing and Spontaneity
While there is only a small window every cycle in which to
conceive, if you don't try to keep a little spontaneity going,
conceiving your baby may start to feel like a chore. If you
plan to have sex frequently in the time leading up to
ovulation, you will increase your chances of success and be
able to treat your trysts with a little more fun and less rigid
scheduling. Sperm can live inside the woman's body for three to
five days with fertile cervical mucus, while the egg, once it
has left the ovary, lives for about 24 hours.
Try, Try Again
If at first you don't succeed… well, you know how that saying
goes. Most fertility doctors won't see you unless you have been
unsuccessful for a year. If you think your cycle is out of sync
or you just want to get your hormones balanced, you may want to
try alternative therapies. Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese
Medicine can work wonders with balancing the female system and
creating optimal conditions for conception. If it has been a
year or more, you can always make an appointment at the
fertility clinic. Tests will be done to see if they can
determine the problem. This will take some time. Depending on
what they problem is, they will offer you various ways that
they feel will be useful in helping you conceive.
