Getting Pregnant Tips

If you're trying to conceive, it can be frustrating to end up with month after month of negative pregnancy tests. Use these getting pregnant tips to increase your chances of conception.

Folic Acid
Increase your intake of folic acid. This will help prevent birth defects in your baby to be.

Contraception
If you've been on the pill or using other forms of hormonal birth control, it may take a few cycles to return to normal. Some women are fertile the very first cycle after they stop, so be prepared either way. If you have an IUD, it needs to be removed before you try to conceive.

Get a Check-up
Visit your doctor for a physical. They will make sure you're in good health, and give you tips on what you may want to work on. If you smoke, use drugs or drink, now is the time to quit. If you like a large amount of caffeine every day, think about cutting back.

Be Hospitable
Many vaginal products like sprays, douches, artificial lubricants and other products are not sperm-friendly. If you don't feel you have enough cervical mucus, you may try a lubricant like Pre-seed, which is safe for sperm.

Charting and OPKs
Keeping track of your morning temperature can help you know if your cycle is regular or not. If you also keep track of your cervical mucus, you'll be able to predict when ovulation is coming. Your temperature will tell you when it has arrived. If you want a little more help predicting when you'll ovulate, you can use ovulation prediction kits. They are easy to use and will help you pinpoint the best time to conceive.

Timing and Spontaneity
While there is only a small window every cycle in which to conceive, if you don't try to keep a little spontaneity going, conceiving your baby may start to feel like a chore. If you plan to have sex frequently in the time leading up to ovulation, you will increase your chances of success and be able to treat your trysts with a little more fun and less rigid scheduling. Sperm can live inside the woman's body for three to five days with fertile cervical mucus, while the egg, once it has left the ovary, lives for about 24 hours.

Try, Try Again
If at first you don't succeed… well, you know how that saying goes. Most fertility doctors won't see you unless you have been unsuccessful for a year. If you think your cycle is out of sync or you just want to get your hormones balanced, you may want to try alternative therapies. Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine can work wonders with balancing the female system and creating optimal conditions for conception. If it has been a year or more, you can always make an appointment at the fertility clinic. Tests will be done to see if they can determine the problem. This will take some time.
