You're Pregnant! Week
11
As you're reaching the end of the first trimester, you may be
surprised to find out you're feeling a bit better. Food may be
more appealing now, and you may discover you have a little more
energy. Hang in there… as your belly begins to become more
noticeable, you'll get the trade off of not needing to run to
the bathroom quite so much. If your clothing is starting to get
tight, you may want to borrow some of your partner's clothes,
or buy some of the handy tools on the market right now that
help you extend your current pants until you fit comfortably
into maternity clothes.
In the meantime, you may enjoy perusing some of the maternity
wear that is available. Unlike when our parents were expecting
us, maternity wear is sleek, trendy and fun. You can start
planning your maternity wardrobe, even if your most important
job is to go to the grocery store. If you need career clothes
or something special to wear at a wedding or for the holidays,
there are some stunning choices in many different price ranges.
Don't forget a good supportive bra for your ever-expanding
chest and some comfortable maternity undies. There are several
styles available, so you can choose what feels most comfortable
for you.
YOUR BABY
Baby's skills are growing daily. Thumb sucking helps baby learn
important feeding skills for nursing after they are born. Eyes
are still being developed under the wraps of the eyelids, and
the bones are continuing to solidify. All the intestines should
be in place this week inside baby's tummy. Baby's teeth are all
in place inside the gums to make their appearance several
months after birth. The larynx and vocal cords are all prepared
for that first coo. Baby is about three inches long from crown
to rump now.
YOUR BODY
Your breasts may slow down in their changes for a bit. You may
notice a little colostrum leaking occasionally. It is a thick,
yellowish substance that is a little sticky. This is baby's
first milk, and when your baby is born, colostrum will provide
him or her with nutrition and antibodies. This is a great time
to get to know how your breasts work. If you notice colostrum
leaking out, you will see that it is released through several
different outlets in the tip of the nipple. You'll be amazed at
how efficient your baby will be at emptying a breast of milk.
Breastfeeding not only provides the nutritional needs for your
baby that changes at every feeding according what your baby
needs, it helps your baby's mouth to continue to develop
properly.
You may also be surprised at how your uterus feels in your
pelvis. At this stage, it is still within your pelvis. It may
feel heavy, like you have a stone or brick sitting in your
pelvis. As your uterus continues to grow outside of your
pelvis, your belly will begin to bulge and you'll find that
your center of gravity will begin to change.
