You're Pregnant! Week
7
With how tired you feel, you may be wondering whether you'll be
able to keep working. After all, if this is just the beginning,
what are you going to feel like when you're 28 weeks pregnant?
Don't worry. Unless you have a job that puts you at risk
physically or exposes you to dangerous substances, chances are
you won't need to do change too much to accommodate your
growing pregnancy.
If you have a job sitting at a desk, make sure you get up and
stretch frequently. This will help your circulation as well as
keeping you more alert. If you spend your working time
standing, like a cashier or other position that requires you to
be on your feet, you may need to add time resting as your
pregnancy progresses. Being able to sit or put up your feet
will help you feel better and relieve pain in your back. Simply
having a low stool that you can put one foot on can help
relieve stress on your lower back. Heavy lifting will have to
be limited or eliminated altogether. As your belly grows, your
center of gravity will change, and you are more likely to
strain yourself if you try to lift things during your
pregnancy.
YOUR BABY
The baby's yolk sac is now only a stalk. The intestines are
developing outside the body, which is normal at this stage of
development. The arms and legs are continuing to grow and
develop very quickly. Notches start to appear between fingers
and toes in preparation for their division. At this age,
sometimes the heart beat can be heard with a Doppler. The
tongue separates from the other structures in the mouth this
week and the stomach finalizes its development. The urinary
tract is becoming specialized with the bladder, rectum and
urethra. The diaphragm becomes separate from the abdominal and
thoracic cavities. The sex glands begin to change into either
ovaries or testes.
The baby is about the size of a quarter… about an inch long.
The baby is looking more human all the time.
YOUR BODY
You may notice some changes in your body even though your belly
isn't growing yet. You may notice that your areolas and nipples
are getting darker and larger. This will help the baby focus in
when they try to nurse for the first time. The milk glands are
increasing in size, which makes your breasts grow in size. This
can be a blessing in some women's eyes, while a bit unwelcome
in others'. Don't be surprised if your bra size changes. You
may notice that your veins on your chest become much larger and
more prominent as your breasts are receiving a lot more blood
flow as they prepare for breastfeeding.
Keep eating well and getting enough rest. This is the best way
you can help your baby grow. Make sure you drink enough water
during the day as well. Water is important to you and your
growing baby. As your pregnancy continues, you will need more
water as your blood volume expands and you begin excreting
wastes for both you and your baby.
