From Pregnancy To Baby Blog

With my last daughter I bought an inexpensive breast pump and it did not really seem to work well and made it difficult. I am thinking about investing in one of the Medela breast pumps, but they are $300 and up. Are they really worth it? I do not want to waste the money if not because we are really tight on funds with this new baby. If anyone can share their experiences with this style and was it worth it, that would be greatly appreciated. Thnaks.
omg, yes, they are worth it!!! The cheap pumps are crap, you get what you pay for! I love my medeall pump in style, I just had to get the right size breast shileds and it works great. If you have any problems, like low milk supply, premie baby, baby not gaining weight ect… insurance usually picks up most of the cost. All you need is a script from your doctor and then go to a medical supply place and get it for around $20. I would do it if you can afford it. Most hospitals also offer a rental program on hospital grade pumps and that may help if your short on money.

If you are returning to work, and need to pump a few times a day, then it's 100% worth the money.

I've been using the medela pump in style for 11 months now. I an an exclusive pumper. It's worked great for me and my son!

I spent 300 dollars on it… (or there about)

I highly reccomend it!

I used a cheapy pump too the first time and it was so crappy I couldn't get any milk at all and this time I have Medela double electric and it was so worth the money…I can pump both breasts in about 15 minutes and I get around 8 ounces with both sides….totally worth it if you are planning on working and nursing…..I have heard that if you are on WIC they will supply you with a good pump something to look into….

Yes, I had to get one when I went back to work. It worked great, the $300 are worth it compared to formula which is much more expensive. It saved me a lot of money in the long run. I had the Mendela Pump in Style for $250, I would recommend it. I also liked that it worked both plugged in or on batteries.
It was great to be able to prepare bottles for the night so I could sleep while my husband was feeding the baby at night.

well with my last child who is now 1 year and a half ( i breast fed for 6 months) i used the pump that the hospital gave me and it worked just fine. it was a manual one that was also made by medela alot cheaper tho. i assume that any pump u purchase for that amount would be excellent but one thing u have to take into consideration is HOW long are u going to be breast feeding and if u plan to have more babies? with my first daughter i used an electrical one that was a hand-me-down… talk about tight, either way that one was also the savior for me with my second child! it was still in perfect shape and came in handy when the flow stopper thing-y needed to be replaced on the manual one. and that one was First Years brand and lasted over 5 years… so i mean i know for sure i am not having any more children but if u are seriously tight i think u should try a cheaper brand before splurging… good luck!!

I love my Medela pump in style. It works really well. Both my sisters tried manual pumps and never successfully pumped. I have no problem pumping.

Fortunately mine was a hand-me-down so I didn't have to fork over the money for it. (I know they are not supposed to be used by more than one person, but I've never had any problems with it and that's really all I care about).

Good luck with your new baby!! Congrats!

I have a pump in style & never tired acheap one. I justified it because it is cheaper than buying formula and way better for my baby. Note that the PIS comes with a lot of extras– a manual pump, battery pack, cooler, bottles, backpack, etc. It works great. I am going back to work so I think it was worth it for me to have a really efficient pump.

I found that with each kid, I pumped less and less. There just wasn't time, LOL. I had an Avent Isis and it was quite good and I'm really glad I didn't spend more than that by baby #3, LOL.
