Usually only a few weeks. Try using a baby wash or lotion for sensitive skin. If it worries you, go see your doctor. He could be allergic to something ( you are using baby detergent in the wash?) or have this condition where their skin gets red. Either way, it will go away.

It can last up to 6 weeks. It is totally safe to wash the baby's face gently with the original neutrogena glycerin bar soap. My midwife recommended it for my daughter when she was a newborn, I used it twice a day and it cleared up within 3 days. Just be careful not to get it in baby's eyes.

Baby acne at this stage is quite common.
However, make sure your baby is not suffering from allergic reaction to milk, blankets, lotions, etc. Some babies are allergic even to "baby shampoos" and lotions.
