From Pregnancy To Baby Blog

My four week old broke out pretty bad with baby acne this week and it is getting worse every day. I know not to mess with it and that it will go away on its own. I was just wondering how long it usually lasts?
Usually only a few weeks. Try using a baby wash or lotion for sensitive skin. If it worries you, go see your doctor. He could be allergic to something ( you are using baby detergent in the wash?) or have this condition where their skin gets red. Either way, it will go away.

I am pregnant, and am planning on bottle feeding my baby. So far I have 2 125ml bottles and 3 160ml bottles. How many more do you think I will need? Also, I have bought Avent brand bottles, has anybody has any experience with these? Do you like them? Did you use the spare teats that came with the bottles?
How many you need to have, depends on how often you will be washing them. But, most babies need 6-8 bottles a day. This can vary depending on the baby’s individual personality. You will probably start with the 4 oz bottles and the move up to the 8 oz as the baby’s intake increases. Individual babies have individual patterns and preferences, but I used Avent with my son, and they seem to be the most popular at the child development center. I agree though with the other person, that maybe you should just get a couple of avent at first and see what your baby likes before you invest in a lot of bottles. Don’t worry too much. It will be a fun and wonderful time!

One of the most exciting and memorable times is when your baby takes those first steps.  It seemed so far away when you brought that bundle of joy home.  But there they are, walking into your arms….or over to pull the dogs tail, or to pull the tablecloth off the table.  Although it is a very exciting time and a milestone for your baby, you need to do some work as well.  Get down on the floor and look around.   You may have had your home baby proofed but that was for a crawling baby.  Now that they are standing tall, there may be other things they can now reach that were out of their reach when they were crawling.

It is sometimes difficult to see dangers in your home.  You get use to things being in a space and look past it time and time again.  Make an effort to look at your home through baby’s eyes. Are there corners to fall on?  Are all of your outlets covered?  Do you have baby gates on stairways?  Are doors baby proofed?  Remember that they can now reach up and open that knob or pull that drawer where you may have your sharp kitchen utensils.  If it is something they shouldn’t be in, you know that is the first place they will go!

A good idea would be to go through a catalog of baby safety products.  This may get you to think about an area that you wouldn’t have thought of as a safety issue.  Read some articles on baby proofing your home.  Talk to other parents with toddlers to see what they have done.  An ounce of prevention now is worth its weight in gold.  It only takes a split second… a ringing phone…. a knock at the door…….

Enjoy this time.  There is only one first step and it’s a memory that you will cherish forever.

Without a doubt, child safety is one of the highest priority for parents with babies. If you are driving, the first thing you want to consider is finding a good quality child safety seat. Here are some suggestions we would like to share with you when choosing your perfect child safety seat.

When it comes to choosing the right car safety seat for your child, you must consider your child’s age, weight and height. The car safety seat must be used correctly in order to avoid serious injury or death.

If you have an infant that is under 1 year old and less than 9 kg (20 lb.), choose a safety seat that is specifically tailored to your baby’s size. It should be rear-facing seat and not intended for use by older baby. Infant car seat is best to use until at least one year old and a minimum of 10 kg (22 lb.). You must follow the manufacturer’s safety recommendations for height/weight.

If your baby is older than one but less than four and weigh between 9 and 18 kg (20-40 lb.), choose a forward-facing car seat. This type is more convenient for the parents. However, it should still be installed in the back seat of a car. Again, follow the manufacturer’s safety recommendations for height/weight.

If your child is under the age of 8, weighing between 18 kg and 36 kg (40 – 80 lb.) and less than 145 cm (4′ 9″) tall, choose a Belt-positioning Booster Seat. This seat uses the regular in-car shoulder belts to secure the child. If your child is older than 8 and weigh more than 36 kg (80 lb.), he or she is now ready to use the car’s seat belt.

Many car safety seats are convertible, they can be turned from a rear-facing position to forward-facing with a few simple movements. However, you must always consider the other factors such as your baby age, weight and height characteristics in order to get one that is safe for your baby.

Children come in different shapes, some are slender, taller, others are shorter and more rounded. That means they all fit a little differently in the car safety seat.

Also, take note that there is a difference between an infant seat and an infant car seat. The former is just a baby carrier that can be placed in the car, on the floor or table at home. A car seat is specifically designed to be used in the car.

When using a car safety seat, be sure that harness straps are snug and tight. Use a tether strap with a forward-facing child car seat.

I just read a news article from my local news service. A local medical group said that they see about 25 percent of births by cesarean.   The National Center for Health Statistics shows 29%.  This is up from about 12 percent from the 1990′s.  Hospitals have been seeing a rise in the trend of planned birthdays.  Many parents are choosing the timing of the birth for many different reasons.   If you are thinking about this option, be sure to talk to your doctor to find out what the risks are.  A cesarean is still major surgery and can come with complications.   Before you decide, do a little research and make sure it’s the right choice for you and your baby.
