3 out of 5 stars Worth the money   July 28, 2010
Fern (San Ramon, CA)
So for the price you can't beat it. We recently replaced our Chicco hook on seat with this one. First of all it's almost like a big puffer coat but it's a chair. The back comes up pretty high and it's well padded with poof. The harness system is a bit over the top for an older toddler (nearly 2) since the back and sides are so high. But hey, safety is a good thing. It fit on our table fine. Your child does sit pretty close to the table however. If you use a rubber bid with the catch cup at the bottom it could hit the table! It's worth the money.

4 out of 5 stars Table Lip, Schmable Lip.   July 12, 2010
Kelli C.
I don't understand all of the reviews concerning the table lip! The chair has two folding mechanisms for this exact reason. While it hasn't fit on EVERY table that I've tried (one being at a Texas BBQ restaurant with bigger than life tables that looked like tree trunks), it has fit on a good 90% of tables at restaurants we've visited. And we eat out a lot. I can schlep the kiddo to a cafe and hook him up to the bar with no problem. He's not in the way, and doesn't cramp my style :P

Though I guess I could say this about any portable high chair, this product is a lifesaver at weddings and events that normally don't cater to babies. It allows for the baby to be included at the table, and when eating out, allows us to keep baby inside of a booth seat instead of at the end where the waiters serve your food.

When I first purchased this, my son was sitting a little low. This was EASILY remedied by having him sit on a small pillow tucked in the chair. After that, he was a happy camper. He is now big enough to use this chair with no pillow.

The reason for only 4 stars is because of the bit of trouble I have actually folding it back. I found the silver collapse buttons on the frame to be very small, and it hurt my thumbs to push in. Since the chair is not so big, I've opted to just never fold it in. I simply slide it in the back of my car completely assembled. No biggie. I've carried purses bigger than this chair.

Maybe I just don't know any better. This is the only hook-on chair that I have had the pleasure of knowing. But it seems to do the trick, and we continue to use it graciously. I would buy one again.

1 out of 5 stars don't waste your time   May 5, 2010

I ordered this chair in March 2010 so it'd arrive by the time my infant needed it. It was to arrive in late April, then early May, and now the ETA is July or August. Don't waste your time. Apparently amazon.com can't deliver on this item and should remove it from their site.

3 out of 5 stars Not great for everyday use   May 3, 2010
Youcan Toucan (California)
For both space and aesthetic reasons I wanted to make a hook-on chair work for everyday use. I bought this one due to the good reviews and low price, but here's what I don't like about it (I've used it since my son was 6 mos & he's now 9 mos 75 percentile in height and weight):

1) "Surface clean only." There is a particle board piece in the seat to keep it firm that is attached, and this chair is not made to be thrown in the washer. The food collects in the seat, and on the front straps of the chair. It's not easy to clean it well with a sponge.
2) My son who is the size of a tall 12 mo old still sits very low in it. The side bars come up to his armpits. His head barely sticks up over the top. Not like the baby you see in the photo here. He still seems too small for it. Maybe the issue is back support. He always seems slumped down in it, although he can sit up on his own fine.
3) Although there is a hard surface where he sits, it often seems like he is hanging out of it. Like his body is in a straight position. It doesn't look very comfortable.
4) My next try will be a chair that includes a tray that can be attached. The two bars that hold it to the table also collect food and gunk and are not easy to clean well without taking it off the table.

Here are the pros:
1) It is easy to assemble, light, compact for travel
2) It does fit over a table lip contrary to what many reviews claim
3) great price

2 out of 5 stars Works, but Others are Much Nicer   April 11, 2010
J. Vanderhoef (Texas)
I own this high chair and would not recommend it. If budget is a major constraint for you, then yes, it does work. But, it became well used looking and ragged far too soon. It doesn't fold up small enough to reasonably be carted to restaurants and kept in the car. It is small enough to haul to a friend's or relative's once in a while, though. It is too big to for airlining, as it would take up precious luggage space.

I prefer the Chicco travel seats, or even better, the Phil and Ted's travel seat.

Unlike other reviewers, I have to say, it DOES fit on skirted tables. My table has about a 4" skirt and it works. However, getting it on is a puzzle. It's not a hard one, but the first time it took my a minute or two to figure out how to wiggle it just right to get it on.

This is decent enough to be passed along as a freebie, but even with careful, limited use, it's not nice enough now to resell. :(
